The one thing I love about Crock-Pot recipes is that all you have to do is drop all of the ingredients in the pot and go. I also really like that this Hawaiian Pineapple Barbecue Chicken recipe only has 3 simple ingredients — boneless skinless chicken breast, barbecue sauce, and frozen pineapples.

Well, I used four ingredients — the fourth was raw honey. I like to add a little sweetness to my barbecue sauce.

But, honey is really optional. I know everyone taste is different and some don’t prefer sweet bbq sauce.

Plus if your pineapples are already ripe and sweet then that might be enough to satisfy your taste.

I adapted this Crock-Pot Hawaiian Barbecue Chicken from a site called Stockpiling Moms. I came across the recipe one day while meal planning for the week ahead.

I think you can be versatile with the ingredients depending on your preference. You can use boneless skinless thighs instead of breasts and whatever bbq sauce you enjoy. And you can use either fresh or frozen pineapple chunks.

I wanted to keep things super easy so I didn’t use any spices, but add spices to it if you would like to give it an extra depth of flavor.

I added 2 to 3 tablespoons of raw honey to this dish because I usually like my barbecue sauce sweet.

Since this was my first time making this recipe I wanted to be sure the sauce wouldn’t be too thick. So when I added the barbecue sauce I left about 4 ounces in the bottle.

I waited until the chicken was fully cooked to check the consistency of the sauce. After giving it a taste I knew I needed to add that last 4 ounces of barbecue sauce to increase the barbecue flavor.

Use bbq sauce with natural ingredients if possible. I had a really tough time finding a good bbq sauce brand without things like sugar, corn syrup, salt, and other ingredients that aren’t so healthy.

If you also have a hard time finding a great bbq sauce brand then maybe consider making your own if you have the time and enjoy making home-cooked food from scratch.

Serve this over rice, alone, with rolls, or a slice of bread. This list could go on. Eat it how you desire! I served it to my family along with brown rice.

Hawaiian Pineapple Barbecue Chicken | Crockpot Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 6 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 18 ounces barbecue sauce
  • 24 ounces pineapple chunks frozen or thawed
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons raw honey optional

Instructions
 

  • Place ingredients in Crock-Pot on high for 4 hours. After 4 hours shred fully cooked chicken with 2 forks. Serve over rice or by itself. Enjoy!
