Healthy Blueberry Banana Green Smoothie

Funny I should call this a “green smoothie” although it is not at all green and to me the taste of green vegetables (spinach) is hardly noticeable. But it does have lots of veggies loaded into it (that you can barely taste) so I think it does deserve to be called a “green smoothie.”

This Blueberry Banana Smoothie is sweet and creamy. If you prefer not to taste vegetables in your smoothie then you may enjoy this one. Spinach is usually the vegetable I go to when I want to drink a green smoothie, but don’t necessarily want to taste the vegetables in it.

I’m not sure how anyone else feels about spinach, but I think it’s perfect for these occasions.

This is another smoothie recipe that doesn’t involve a lot of ingredients. It’s simple, easy to make, and the best part about it is it’s healthy! But, don’t get me wrong, there are times when I like to change things up or experiment with different ingredients.

Especially during those times when I tend to make smoothies more frequently. That’s when I sometimes like to use a variety of fruits and vegetables to experience new and different flavors.

If you’ve read the Blueberry Banana Green Smoothie recipe you will notice raw grass-fed milk is one of the ingredients I used. This is not an ingredient I normally add to my smoothies. One reason is that my family doesn’t drink it all the time.

But, when we do have it I like to add it to our smoothies and mainly because of the health benefits it adds to our drinks.

What are the benefits of raw-grass fed milk?

Raw milk has many vitamins and minerals, helps with allergies, benefits your skin, and even has a small number of probiotics. And if you’re serious about getting probiotics into your diet it is possible to increase the amount that’s present in raw milk.

And how do you increase the probiotic count? By fermentation. Fermenting raw milk to make yogurt, cheese, and kefir will raise its beneficial bacteria.

Let’s talk about the taste.

The milk in this smoothie recipe gives it a creamy taste. To me, the taste is slightly similar to blueberry yogurt. And the taste of spinach is barely noticeable.

As I’ve mentioned before, that’s one of the reasons why so far spinach is probably my favorite go-to leafy green vegetable to add to green smoothies.

Spinach doesn’t have a strong taste that takes over smoothies like some other vegetables.

There’s one last thing that I think is worth mentioning about this Blueberry Banana Green Smoothie. If you don’t drink it immediately it could form almost a gel or pudding-like consistency. This can easily be fixed by stirring your drink.

This is what happened to me. To smooth it out I just stirred my drink with the straw I used and problem solved.

I usually make a large serving for myself so sometimes I don’t finish it until at least about 30 minutes later. After a period of time, I noticed the clumping. I’m not sure why. It could have been because of the milk, although I’ve made smoothies with milk before many times and don’t remember that happening.

However, as I’ve said before, stirring your smoothie should take care of the issue.

But you can just leave out the milk if you like and I’m sure your smoothie will be fine. 🙂 Also, I only have experience making this smoothie with my high-speed Vitamix blender so I’m not sure how it will turn out with a standard household blender.

Cutting back on some of the fruits and vegetables and increasing the amount of liquid could help the smoothie to blend well if you’re not using a Vitamix or other high-speed blender.
